Gozu ("Cow Head"):Gozu is said to be a skinny man with a cow head instead of a normal human head. His backstory is said to start in 1776 with his mother, called Hasouchi, and her son Masawka in the dead of winter. Since it was cold in Japan at the time, Masawka’s, or Gozu’s, father had an old cow. Before the father passed he told Hasouchi and Masawka that they are to slice open the cow and sleep in it every winter but to never take it out in the summer or else bad things will happen to them. The mother and son were so happy with the cow and finally sliced it open. Then they cut a hole out of the head and the eyes. After that they cleaned the body and stuffed it up with the fur of foxes, making it all nice and cozy for them. The mother and son loved this so much because they didn’t have much money, and they lived in an old broken hut that wasn’t warm enough to survive in. When summer rolled around they relied on the weather to keep them warm. Until one day in the summer a cold breeze came. Afraid of hypothermia they went to the cow, but when they got in it they blacked out. They woke to find that their hut was no longer standing. When they went into the cow head they saw a man with an axe. Sadly he chopped the mother’s head off. The son got away. Later that night the man with the axe started coughing up something black and white. With his bodyguards surrounding him, he finally coughed the whole cow head up. The cow head started rolling around on the ground until it chose one of the body guards. It put its own head on the bodyguard, and that bodyguard wasn’t able to get the head off. That is how Gozu was made.
